Exploring the Energetic Universe 2022 is the international workshop taking place on Aug 31 – Sep 2, 2022 at Nazarbayev University in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. The third in a series of international workshops, this meeting aims to bring researchers working on various aspects of astrophysics, cosmology, gravity, as well as advanced detectors. The event is organized by the Energetic Cosmos Laboratory in collaboration with the Physics Department of Nazarbayev University under partial support by the ISTC. Students and young researchers from Kazakhstan and Central Asia are especially welcome to attend. The format of the event is an in-person workshop.
Founded in 2010, the Nazarbayev University is emerging as one of the leading universities in Central Asia providing world-class education and conducting frontier research in many fields of science and technology. The Energetic Cosmos Laboratory was founded by Nobel Laureate George Smoot in 2016. Today, it is a world-class laboratory, hosting cutting-edge facilities such as a cryogenic laboratory that can produce “the coldest place in Kazakhstan”, advanced detector and sensor electronics, and a vibrant data science program. One of the flagship projects of the laboratory is the ultrafast telescope currently operating at the Assy-Turgen Observatory in collaboration with the Fesenkov Astrophysical Institute. The NU Department of Physics conducts research in a wide variety of fundamental physics topics, including particle astrophysics, gravity, and relativity.

A limited number of slots for short talks are available. If you want to give a contributed talk, please send the title and abstract of the presentation to ecl@nu.edu.kz before July 31, 2022. Due to time limitations, we may not find a time for even the most distinguished researchers to speak, therefore we encourage participants to also consider giving poster presentations. Excellent presentations by students will receive special recognition by the LOC.
There are several hotels located in the vicinity of the university campus, for example the Wyndham Garden hotel, which is located within 20 min walking distance from the campus and where most of the participants are expected to stay.
